Got a lead on one that I'm pretty sure is what I need. Will pipe up again if I need more options. Thx.

Junie, I have both a tape deck & a portable. I can also rip it to mp3 & burn a CD, providing the cassette is in good shape. Tapes do tend to “dry out” as the years go by. It’s evaporation of the binding agents for the magnetic oxides, IIRC.
You’ve definitely triggered a few memories for me. I ran the Music Dept. recording studio for recitals & concerts. We even graduated the same year.

Anyone have one of these dinosaurs I could borrow for just a couple of days?
Think I found the last surviving tape of my Senior recital from COLLEGE (... 40+ years ago! --cassettes were still a "thing" in 1978!) But have nothing to "test play" it on. (Don't want to repeat a past mistake & digitize an EVEN OLDER reel-to-reel tape that turned out to be a not-very-good audition submit) if it's still playable -- and it's the real thing -- I know where I can get it transferred to CD. And THAT technology should still be around for another year or three. (Maybe MP3 is the best way to go?)
I can do touchless porch P.U. & keep it sanitized until return.
LMK ... TIA
