iMac G3

So I have this early 2000 Indigo iMac Jellybean sitting around collecting dust. It runs something like IOS 9. something?? Is there any practical use for this machine in this day in age? Its such a cool design, I hate to get rid of it. I'm still sorry I got rid of my Mac/Plus 20plus years ago.

I guess it depends on your definition of "practical." For example, I have a friend who is still hanging on to an old OS 9 MacBook Pro because of a particular audio-editing program he likes, which was never upgraded to OSX compatibility. But unless you have a similar need, it's really only good for parts. Maybe only for the hard drive.

You could run Linux on it, but would that be useful?

The low computing power you get out of it, combined with the large amount of A/C power it consumes, make it hard to justify. Plus it makes heat and noise.

And if it doesn't have an ethernet adapter, forget it.

I finally took mine apart, smashed the hard drive and recycled the rest. It was hard. It was the first computer I ever bought myself.

We had a Bondi Blue one, I believe the first model iMac they ever came out with, that we finally put out during bulk pickup three or four years ago. I had barely set it down before a kid (looked about 12 or so) jumped out of a van and said, "Does that still work?" I told him it did when we boxed it up several years before. He was so excited I thought his head might explode. I figured at his age he maybe knows some secret way to get it all hot rodded up. He's probably hacking Putin's emails on it right now.
