I wonder if Mitt Romney will have a backbone

He certainly has been vocal in his disgust of Trump.  I wonder if that will translate into an independent voice when he becomes a senator.

Doubtful. He will be disgusted alright but I bet he sticks to the party line. I’m not optimistic at all.

Has he announced he's going to run? I thought he was only going to run if Orrin Hatch retires, and I though Orrin Hatch decided to stay on.

Never mind - just saw the announcement.

Hatch announced his retirement today, but no, Romney hasn't announced anything yet

In the end it doesn’t matter. If he wins he can criticize the president if he wants to, but he’s going to be a reliable yes on every piece of sh...I mean bill that comes up for a vote.

Not to mention every judicial or agency nomination.

I thought losing Presidential candidates were supposed to disappear and not be heard from ever again. Or maybe that rule only applies to Hillary Clinton. In any event, Romney would just be another GOP senator, like the rest, no matter how much anti-Trump muttering he did or does.

I guess that's why we never heard from Dick what's his name after he lost to Kennedy.

UT was pretty guaranteed to have Republican senator (though after AL, clearly such "guarantees" aren't ironclad).

Given that, better to have a Trump-critical senator in there, even if the party affiliation doesn't flip. Don't have any guesses on the legislative implications (will Romney be a Collins-style voter?), but for things like investigations into Trump scandals, I think Romney will be a plus.

There's disgust with Trump. And then there's voting to further concentrate wealth to the very rich.

rMoney will surely need a backbone. Somebody’s gotta stand up to the mooching 47%.

Mitt doesn’t have anything approaching Roy’s closet skeleton collection. His biggest political liability is Mormonism - not an issue in Utah.

The question is whether Bannon & Co will run a nut-job against him in the Primary.

The Koch brothers turned Romney into a climate change denier.   He was also cheerleader for Citizen's United.  Remember, "Corporations are people, my friend"   The guy does the bidding of whomever pays the bills.
