I always thought circumflexion was required if you're kosher.

My kids love everything bagels. Manhattan Bagels, while not the best bagel, puts the "everything" on both the top and the bottom of the bagels, which is very popular with my family. Any place else do that?

Bagels 4 Û is sounding like a worthy contender, and I do go that way more often than Ûnion or Livingstôn, so I will put it on the lîst.

Bagel Chateau, with or without a circumflex, is an ôxymôrôn. When was the last time you ate a bâgel in a château? For that matter, when was the last time you ate anything in a château?

Châteaux and bagels do seem incongruous. I wonder how the name came about.

lbcn14 -- are you saying that same family owns the Bagels 4 U stores in all of their locations and Sonny's? I agree that Bagels 4 U are real bagels, but I detected a difference in texture from Sonny's. I like Sonny's bagels as much or more than those from the late lamented H&H in NYC.

To me, the cream cheese selection is a critical component. Hot Bagels Abroad has a roasted red pepper cream cheese that makes me so very happy on a toasted sesame bagel. Also they have the mini bagels for my kid so it's a win all around.

Just curious. Does the circumflex relate to the inner vacant space of a round bagel or are we talking abount the total area of y=1/12d, plus or minus cream cheese?

I believe that sonny opened the bagels 4 u and his family still owns them, the place on irvington ave was Watson's bagels. That place was opened after the Newark store closed.

From what I understand, Sonny's and Bagels 4 U are owned by two different members (sons?) of the family that owned Watson's on Chancellor Ave. neither quite measure up to Watson's, but they are better than the average bagel.

Oh,that I could still be a kid and go with my father to pick up bagels at Watsons or danish and onion boards at Wiglers's/Sonny Amster's.

Please don't refer to the baked sugar paste from "Bagel Chateau" as a "bagel." It's absolutely inedible.

I like Zaro's in NYPS but they are expensive. $14.60 for a baker's dozen.

We used to get Bagels 4U in Springfield but found their quality had gone down and their lack of selection could annoy.

Sonny's has a remarkable sale midday sometime, bagels half-price and we scoop these whenever we can (their Everything bagels are very nice). But living in Maplewood this isn't often.

If you want a real bagel, then Sonny's or Bagels 4 U is the way to go. If you want something that's akin to getting a croissant at Burger King, well, there's the Bagel Chateau and most of the other places that sell blueberry "bagels." If the bagel isn't boiled and baked, it's not a bagel, but something else...
