Homestead Rebates???

I received a tax rebate from NJ automatically deposited into my checking account today.  It certainly isn't an income tax rebate -- so could it be a homestead rebate?  Has anyone else gotten one?  Thanks.

are you sure it is not your tax refund (income tax)-they are late sending those out.

homestead rebates are typically reduced from your prop tax bill.

No, I paid state income tax for last year.  After many calls, I wound up speaking to my current tax collector and she said homestead rebates are starting to come in for calendar year 2014.  Since I was living in Maplewood then (and no longer do), NJ sent me the cash.  Nice surprise!

Please 'splain. I remember we used to fill out a short form to get a Homestead Rebate. I thought it ended. Should we be expecting one?

I get yearly emails from NJ State Taxation that ask me to confirm my information and I do it all online.  Back in the day I used to get them by snail mail.  It didn't end, they stalled it for a few years, which is why they're behind on issuing them.  The one I got is for calendar year 2014, so because they're behind, I have to wait 6 years now to get my senior discount.  Way to go, Christie.

I'd suggest calling the state dept. of taxation and ask them how you can get back on the program -- they're very helpful when you can get them on the phone.

I had no idea. Thank you for telling me. I don't remember what the criteria are or if I would still qualify, but I will call this week.

Oh, never mind. I just looked at the criteria. We used to get quite a large one, but it seems that the criteria have changed.
