The Coronavirus attacks without awareness of race, religion, or political persuasion. I think a place to drop suggestions, health related issues, good news, and positive coping tips, suggestions, and questions would be an intelligent response to this global nightmare.

Question: Suggestions for face masks for folks who wear glasses or over the ear hearing aids. Ear buds also get entangled. The elastic straps frequently come off, knocking other gadgets off the ear. One style, the neck gaiter design, might avoid the ear space competition, as it pulls up, no ties. Any thoughts?

I found posting the above did not allow me to select a category. I would prefer it appear please help or virtual. Jamie?

Anecdotal support: I had to call Costco hearing center earlier this week to see if I could get a replacement hearing aid since my cat chewed one to bits. The center is essentially shut down since its testing booths do not allow six feet separation. The hearing technician I spoke with said she has been getting a lot of calls from people who lost their earring aids due to wearing masks.

There’s this Other Practical Concerns thread already, in Science & Technology, though quiet since Tuesday:

This thread has been moved from the politics section.

If you really want to be neutral, maybe you could remove this sentence. The virus is attacking African-Americans way out of proportion to their share of the population.

If I may share some good news, I can finally wear a mask and not feel suffocated. I’m not saying I don’t rip it off the second I’m in the car, but I am not as horribly uncomfortable with it as I was a week or two ago. Though I worry about us wearing them when the weather is warm. It is necessary and the right thing to do, but it is not going to be pleasant.

Still hoping someone has a solution for coexisting with  behind the  hearing aids, glasses, and masks!

My son has a similar problem. He feels suffocated by them.

Any tips on how to get by that?

the person I know using a bandana just ties it behind his neck.  I just made a new contraption with a square of cloth folded into a triangle.....ran a shoe lace through the top and tie behind my neck (handkerchief size material--with point below chin like how you would use a bandana...just made it yesterday, haven't actually tried wearing it out yet...worked for the minute I tried it.....i pinned it for now (through the lace and FRONT triangle (so metal doesn't sit directly on face, but plan to put a few stitches in to hold in in place.

if you want you can run a lace through a pin on the bottom point...even tie in front to be easier.

i read an article that vacuum cleaner bags make good mask material if you can't find anything else.

Go online for motorcycle face masks.  Some come without fixtures on the tie ends. If so, glue velcro on the ends.

Re vacuum cleaner bags: read that the bag has fine filters which might be inhaled when used as masks.

I struggled with foggy glasses when wearing a mask and it was very frustrating. I found a solution:

Cut a piece of a tissue the width of the mask, fold it and staple it to the top inside of the mask. It fills and blocks the space where your stinky breath goes up onto your glasses.

You're welcome.

Read another solution: wash the lens with soapy water, rinse and let dry before wearing them outdoors. The film left by the soap prevents fogging.

I can’t remember the last time I left the house, but I told my neighbor (who runs errands for me) about this method. She swears it works!

Please try it and report back!

BTW, my mask issue is still an issue for me

Home Depot has curbside, pop-trunk pick up.  Just did it.

The store seems very busy.  Lots of people going in and out.  All masked, including staff, as far I could tell.

W.B Mason has residential deliveries and isn't facing nearly half the backup as other online stores. There's a delivery fee, but it was worth it to get TP delivered within 2 days.

 never heard of them

That's why they don't have the same backlog. They're a business supply company.

Business supply... So, giant rolls of scratchy 1-ply?

We've been fine with TP, but if I had a problem finding regular TP, I'd buy those big rolls used in public/office building toilets and just find some make shift thing to put them on.  The market for those has crashed because nobody is going to work.  What's the big deal.

 I guess you aren't a baseball fan.

Nope. It was Angel Soft brand.

Staples has those mega rolls, and delivery/shipping is free. (And W. B. Mason has bought ad space on virtually every outfield wall in professional baseball. Plus, now that you’ve heard of it, I bet you start seeing the trucks everywhere!)

I was out walking last week, and a big, very colorful truck drove past. It reminded me of something from a circus. There were huge letters which I only had a glimpse of.

Does this company have trucks like that?

I like their trucks. I always thought it was a moving company, though.
