Actually, that's true for WI, but WM now does weekly - one item per week (on the curb) on regular pickup day, no call needed.

I’ve got an old freestanding freezer that no longer works can I leave for bulk pickup or is there somewhere I can dump this hunk o junk?
Please remove the door first if you leave it out for bulk pick-up. Children have been known to get locked inside such appliances and suffocate before someone found them.
i've heard that modern fridges/freezers can be opened from the inside, but I don't want to be the one to test that theory....and even if can be, while an adult might be able to escape, a child might not....so its still better to take the door off.

I think it's a requirement, because of the risk of suffocation.

Depends on how old the old freezer is. Better safe than sorry. On my walk this morning, I did see an old freezer by the curb for bulk pick-up. The door was removed and placed separately. I don't know if this was the freezer OP is referring to.
laws do vary, it definitely used to be the law to take the door off....i can't see NJ changing that. i read one source that said only required (in that state) if the door actually locks shut like the old fashioned ones.
