Gay and lesbians in Maplewood

Hi. I have lived in Maplewood for 8 years and still have not been able to connect with the gay and lesbian community here. Mostly do due my own lack of effort! Are there any active groups in the area? I am also a parent and I am not looking for a partner but it would be great to meet other parents and people who are similarly Interested in making new friends. Thanks!!

Two Facebook groups I know of: "SOMA LGBT" and "North Jersey Pride" (based in Maplewood). I think there is also a local group for families, but not sure of the name.

There used to be a mailing list called Rainbow Families. I'm not sure if it's still active. Steve Mershon might still be an expert on all the various social media that would be good to check out.

LGBT night is at Coda - you can sign up for alerts for that too through FB.

Quite a few LGBT owned businesses in Maplewood & South Orange, too... introduce yourself to be owners, they can introduce you to folks there!

Also groups on Meet up for MAPSO and area LGBT folks, too.

Thank you SF, I feel the same way, already married, kids are raised but we seem to have missed the opportunity to access the LGBT community on our doorstep. I've looked for book clubs etc and I guess I felt that "success" is the immersion of all of us into a community. But I would like to know more of my LGBT neighbors. I'll check out FB, and Coda...meanwhile, Book Club ?????

I found the Rainbow Families group I mentioned, though it has become quiet. Maybe you can spark it back up.
