Franken gone

GOP Gov Rick Snyder of Michigan says the special election to replace Democratic Rep. John Conyers won't take place for 11 months.

GOP cynicism knows no bounds.

Well said, Mika.  Good for you.

Yes! I did not start out as a fan of Mika's although I turn on the show every morning but I have grown to like her and was surprised to hear her articulate my feelings. I got tired of hearing Gillibrand and Cox and a slew of others who were justifying this fever to fire everyone who ever behaved like a jerk and tossing them into the same category as some of the real bad guys. I've been flipped out over this posse that came forward to push Franken out. To those who missed some of his finer moments I found this tweet:

It was Al Franken that pressured Jeff Sessions on his meetings with Russia during his confirmation, where Sessions lied under oath (a felony for most) about meetings with Russian Ambassador Sergey Kislyak, which forced him to recuse himself, which directly led to the appointment of Special Prosecutor Robert Muller. Without this event, there's no Paul Manafort arrest. There's no Michael Flynn arrests. Don Jr. wouldn't be questioned this week. The criminals in Trump's cabinet and campaign would still be free. For that, America owes a great debt to Senator Franken. We should remember that in the years to come.

I don't think anyone here is questioning his accomplishments or his views. I also agree he is not in the same category as Weinstein.  However, he is also not in the same category of some who have simply made sexual comments.  He did touch women inappropriately on more than one occasion which would indicate his mentality of that kind of behavior being acceptable.  For that reason he should resign.  If he feels his conduct wasn't that bad, and his actions as a politician were more valuable, then he should run for his seat again and let the voters decide as some here have suggested.

Personally, I think we need to lead by example.

Do you really believe  the democrats won't throw these cases out there against them? Why do you think they are asking for their own members to resign?  Its to clean house and to be able show they weren't the party to look the other way.

And for a party who hasn't been made to answer for anything, the Republicans are still worried about being seen as the party who looked the other way.

The most recent proof of this which also answers your last question is the resignation of Trent Frank's.  He resigned because he was going to be investigated, and because Paul Ryan had put pressure on him.   If they weren't worried about answering for anything Ryan would have stayed out of it.

What is that supposed to mean?  What didn't I pay attention to?

The Republicans will have to answer for Moore and whoever else gets caught after this.

If you are going to continue to comment here it would be better if you started paying attention.

Name something that the Republicans have done in the last +/- 9 years for which they had to answer.

They get away with whatever they want because they have fooled their supporters into voting against their own best interest.

You’re qbsolutly right.   We got Trent Franks!!!     VICTORY!!!!

As long as they look the other way re Trump and Moore, then Trent Franks doesn't really mean much as far as I'm concerned.

No but it's a start.  They aren't going to turn on Trump for his sexual conduct until they get done what they want to get done. Taxes - check, EPA regulations -check, health insurance -still working on, Entitlement programs - now have Trump considering them after he said he wouldn't touch them throughout the campaign.   Once they get what they want they will turn on him, they are playing him for the fool that he is.

Some insightful take on this thread

She makes some good points. I've listened to her take on it on Morning Joe. Mika has been vocal and I've agreed with her as well. Gillibrand pushed this too far too fast.

Here is another article to consider.
