Flu Shots Saturday Oct. 21 11am-1pm

The Maplewood Health Dept. will be giving flu shots Saturday at the Town Hall from 11am till 1pm.   We will be giving the Sanofi quadrivalent thimeresol free vaccine.  No charge for persons aged 65 and over and those younger who are on Medicare or Medicaid.  Other will be charge $20.00.

Bob:  Quite a few seniors have been asking me why the town does no offer the extra strength shot recommended for some seniors.  What should I reply other than referring these persons to you?

Can under-65s present insurance cards to avoid the payment or should they just go to Target or Walgreen's or similar instead?

I was wondering the same thing.

from Bob Roe:  Joan, it is a judgement call whether to get the extra strength dose that is trivalent or the quadrivalent vaccine.  We choose the quadrivalent.

The numbers of flu shots given by the Township is very far down from a few years ago when we were the major flu shot supplier for residents and seniors.  Now most physicians and pharmacies offer flu shots and accept your insurance which now covers the flu shot.  The Health Dept. is not organized for payment from all the different health care insurance companies.    From a public health point of view, it is a good thing that so many providers now give flu shots since more people are now getting flu shots.  Also,  Flu shots are now a requirement for child care students.

If you need a flu shot, hope to see you Saturday.

Bump again.    Once you get your papers shredded at Public Works come to the Town Hall to get a flu shot.
