floor sander - SMALL AREA

our floor guy is sanding / redoing our floors as we speak and he told us this morning that his sander cannot get into the bathroom (way too small). i asked if doing it by hand was an option and he kind of laughed at me - saying it'd take forever - a ton of work. is there a machine or somethig we can rent and use ourselves?  help - in the 11th hour!  thank u!

does this make sense at all?

No, it doesn't make sense at all.    There's no way a professional floor refinishing firm should be taking this stance.

FWIW, I did a small area once using a high-end random orbit sander and it worked very well (albeit slowly).

This is the right tool for the job, but you have to know how to use it. http://www.homedepot.com/tool-truck-rental/Floor-Edger-7/07013A/   Letting it sit in one spot for even a second will create a nasty divot/wave that will be hard or impossible to repair.

do not use the sander linked to above.  That is for edges only and is way too aggressive to sand an entire floor.

Make sure your floor guy knows you are paying for the floors to be sanded, not some of the floors.  And don't pay him until he is finished
