Feral Cat TNVR Meeting Sept. 9 and Free Rabies Shots

from Robert Roe:  People for Animals and the Health Dept. and feral cat TNVR welfare advocates and volunteers will be holding a meeting at Maplewood Community Center at 120 Burnett Ave. on Saturday September 9 from 1:00-3:00pm.    We need to regroup ourselves and get on with the jobs needed for successful TNVR.   This is the third year of the Maplewood Township pilot program and the Township Committee will be asking for a report on the success and problems with TNVR.   I am fully convinced that TNVR is the best plan to handle feral cats.   Volunteers and resources are needed to be successful.  Call me at the Health Department if there is any question.   973-762-8120 x4400.

An added note:  At the Maplewood Health and Harvest Fest program on Saturday October 7th, from noon until 4:00pm, St, Hubert's Animal Welfare will be doing free rabies vaccination and other services.   The festival is at Maplecrest Park, by the Library.

Are South Orangers welcome? Or is this meeting Maplewood-specific?

Pretty sure all are welcome. It's both instructional and a solicitation for volunteers. I'm SO and I was invited as well as the fact that we use People for Animals as well. As a matter of fact if you are interested in our town using St. Hubert's as they do in Maplewood, the next Town Hall meeting will be discussing that proposal. I know PFA was looking for SO volunteers to help with trapping, fostering etc. Please do come.

from Robert Roe:  The meeting is open to residents of any town who want to help or learn more.

It is clear to me that we need volunteers to make the TNVR succeed.  My rough estimate is about 15 volunteers so that no one person has to do too much.  Our initial group of volunteers did a great job.  We need help to keep the program ongoing.   Some of the skills that are needed:  Caretakers for colonies, Trappers (very cool title), temporary foster, and a coordinator with the volunteers and People for Animals and St. Hubert's, and public educators on TNVR and fundraisers.    We had two very successful Furry Heart Balls two years ago and a good fund raiser for People for Animals last year.  Call me if there is a question.

Thanks, we are actually already TNVR trained. Have been trying to get in touch with PFA without success, as we are wanting to start trapping cats in our SO neighborhood (we were trained in Brooklyn). Will try to attend.

If you call reach out for Valerie. She is our contact for TNVR in South Orange and had called me looking for help. Feel free to PM me.

Bump from Bob Roe:   Please try and attend. Saturday 1:00pm-3:00pm. Now is the time to regroup and re-energize.  Call me if needed.  973-762-8120 x4400.
