Farewell, National Endowments for the Arts

This is starting to pop up a bit:

One day ahead of Donald Trump’s inauguration as president, The Hill reports that he is seriously considering eliminating both the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) and the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) as part of a “dramatic” plan to slash government spending.
In addition to eliminating government funding for the arts—already paltry by world standards—the plan would involve privatizing the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, as well as major funding and programming cuts for the departments of Energy, Commerce, Transportation, Justice, and State, according to The Hill.

To that I say good riddance. Not something tax money should be used on.

Maybe Breitbart can run the Corporation for Public Broadcasting.

Or just turn it over to TASS.

Yeah - what a horrible mission:
Established by Congress in 1965, the NEA is the independent federal agency whose funding and support gives Americans the opportunity to participate in the arts, exercise their imaginations, and develop their creative capacities. Through partnerships with state arts agencies, local leaders, other federal agencies, and the philanthropic sector, the NEA supports arts learning, affirms and celebrates America’s rich and diverse cultural heritage, and extends its work to promote equal access to the arts in every community across America.

these cuts aren't to save costs because they are rounding error in the budget. It's to punish artists, who tend not to be Republicans.

If they were really in "slashing" government spending, they'd go to the Pentagon before the NEA.

He does need to figure out how to make up for the tax cuts for the 1%.

I would love to see a side by side comparison of the NEA budget versus any one item from the military budget.

Edited: NEA annual budget = $142MM, one F35 Lightning II fighter jet = $122MM

yeah, they're doing it to save tax money.

You're so cute sometimes.

A lot of you beat me to it- but of course funding wise this is just a drop in the bucket to make these cuts. It's symbolic and won't have any real tax savings.

The more chips you have on the table the more you get to play with.
