Facebook Question - Please Help

An organization I work with decided to create a public Facebook Group several years ago to make it easier to communicate information regarding our activities.  The person who created the group named himself as administrator and did not name any other administrator or a moderator.  This was not perceived to be a problem at the time since the group was small and most members worked with the organization.  Now the administrator has left the group and has not responded to emails regarding leadership transition.  Is there any way to designate one or more new administrators without action from the present administrator who is no longer administering the Facebook Group?  Is there a danger to being without an administrator or moderator since this is a public group?  Looking to see if we have a problem and if so how the problem can best be resolved.

i doubt you can take over the page without the named admin's cooperation.  have you considered starting a new page?  FB can be aggravating to deal with.  When i created page with my real name, they said it was a fake name and shut it down.  so i made up a fake name and started a new page (not a typical american name) and they allowed that.....my real name isn't strange at all.

Changing the name of the Facebook group is not a viable option. Since the current group name has been well publicized as the official Facebook presence for the organization, we do not want to change it.  I was able to contact the present administrator last evening via Facebook. He tried to add an additional administrator to the Facebook Group and was unable to do so.  Any instruction on how to do this would be appreciated.  None of us are especially Facebook savvy.

How to add someone as an admin on your Facebook page

  1. Select "Settings" on the left side of your page. ...
  2. Select "Page roles" on the left. ...
  3. Click the role box beside their name. ...
  4. Select "Admin" from the list. ...
  5. Existing page roles are organized by how many permissions they hold. ...
  6. You can edit someone's role at any time.

Wonderful.  Do you need to be an administrator to do this?

 Yes

Thank you so much for your help.  I will pass your instructions on to the present administrator.  Hopefully, he can follow them.  This points out the need to have more than one administrator for a Facebook Group.  Otherwise, if something happens to the administrator, you lose all control.
