Exterior Painting

We've received estimates from Wilbur's, Independent, and Olger Fallas. Can anyone comment on recent experiences (both good & bad)? TIA

Very pleased with Olger Fallas. Excellent surface prep and reasonable price.

We  were very happy with Wilburs (house painted 2 years ago).

From Robert Roe:  I want to interject.   Insist that any house painter that you hire follows "Lead Safe" work procedures.   They should have EPA certificates.  But even with this training, not all crews follow the proper procedures.  Call me at the Health Dept. for more info.  

Most houses have been sanded & repainted 3-5 times since lead was removed from paints.  How much of an issue is this today?

It is the law.  My house was painted three years ago.  Underneath the last coat was a coat that was probably lead.  But seriously,  anyone painting needs to follow the law, not make their own call as to whether to follow the law or not.

it was an issue for my house, which was painted last year but had been covered with aluminum siding for 40-50 years. We had to sleep elsewhere for a few nights. 

My house was painted in the last 3 years and the exterior was definitely covered with lead paint.

from Robert Roe    Tomcat, your point does have much validity, but lead paint still is found on many houses.  Usually, most of the lead paint has been removed, but there are still areas with lead paint.  Also, when the houses were first painted 50 or more years ago, the original lead paint soaked into the wood.  So when this old wood is sanded, the wood dust contains lead.   

Another spot that I see as usually contaminated with lead is the dirt next to houses and garages.  Clean all visible chips and dust.   Then put a two inch layer of soil to seal in any remaining dust.   Plant grass or bushes or ivy.   As an added unpleasant thought, think about what the leaf blowers do to this contaminated soil? 

Finally, blood lead levels of lead that we once considered safe are now considered too high.  Do a very complete clean up after having the exterior of your painted house sanded.

Mine was 13k, and though it's a simple house with clean, straight lines, but it required a ton of carpentry, as aluminum siding had been there for many decades. Fallas did our house, too.

Painted in 2015, the bill was $9523.00...

We're about to start in a few weeks with Olgar Fallas.  I got quotes from Classic, Certa Pro, Wilbur and 5 star (Summit).  When the dust cleared, I decided on him due to cost and his sincerity/reputation.
