I think the answer to this and every best route question is Google Maps, no? Your own sense of the shortest route can't beat an app that has real time traffic info.

Correct answer. Google Map's traffic info is very accurate. If you plug in the route before leaving, it will tell you the fastest, and likely tell you by how much over the alternates. The GWB/Cross Bronx/Throgs is the quickest with normal traffic but there's no way predict the effect of a given morning's rush. Word to the wise that construction at the merge from NJ Turnpike Exit 13 to the SI bound Goethals has been regularly gumming things up.

I have to be at Hofstra by 10 AM. What is the best route? GW Bridge/Cross Bronx/Throgs Neck or via Staten Island/Verrazano/BQE?
