Do you hate Apple too? My tale of woe.

grrrrrr.

I've got an iPhone from work.  I've been trying to reset my forgotten AppleID password. Been at it for two months now. (I'm not kidding.)

The process for resetting a forgotten password is about as arcane as an Iowa caucus. At the moment, I'm in a 10 day waiting period, at the end of which I should receive a magical text with a code that will help me. As long as I don't forget about it, which is what happened back in December.

I got a new iPhone today. Was transferring data from old phone to new. At some point, the new phone asked me for my AppleID password. I don't know it. It then said I could reset it using the passcode from my old phone. But they lied.

Now I think my new phone is only partly set up. I just tried to dial the number, and neither phone rang.

I'm pretty sure I followed all directions very carefully.

F*** you Apple.

(If any of you kind souls can suggest a way out of this mess, please tell me.)

Well, I just got off the phone with Apple support, and after 35 minutes he got me up and running again. The support guy was actually quite good, so I feel better about them now.

I still have to wait until Thursday to reset my AppleID password though. He couldn't get past that one.

There's typically a "Forgot your password?" on any login screen on the iPhone.  The one reason i can see why that method wouldn't work is if you no longer had access to the e-mail account you used to set your AppleID up with, in which case you'd call support and provide billing information and they'd update your e-mail address.

If only it were that easy. I never had the option of using my email to help with resetting the password, though the instructions on the web page to reset a password said I should have that option. Maybe because it's a corporate phone. I dunno. Anyway, my AppleID is currently in "recovery mode" while I await the magical email which comes on Feb 6. Because it's in recovery mode, the support guy couldn't help me with it. I had to create a new AppleID to set up the phone so that it's usable.

I get just as frustrated with phone support folk of all kinds, especially the Google techs. No formal policy to support with my disability at all; they really couldn’t care.
Apple though are quite helpful: the truck, though, is that you need a big chunk of time free and you need to visit them in person. So I try to go when they open. Explain to the greeter i have a brain injury, and need a quiet place to have the tech work with me (they’re good about that, sometimes coming out to a near coffee shop) - Feel free to borrow my ABI.
I explain I forget things, get confused, what used to work seems to have got scrambled...and so far, every time, they’ve recovered my password or reset it (reset twice, recovered four times and replaced phone 6 times).

Usually it’s turned out not to be me, but something funny with the phone cheese

I switched companies which resulted in a switch of iPhones.  I couldn't remember the password for my AppleID and unfortunately I had set up the previous work phone as part of my two-factor authentication.  Therefore, I couldn't retrieve my AppleID password because I no longer had the old phone.  I contacted Apple support and it took nearly a MONTH to retrieve my password.  Basically I put in the request and had to wait for a magical email from Apple several weeks later with instructions on how to reset the password.  It makes no sense to me why it takes so long.

In the meantime, I had to set up a new AppleID on the new phone. Now I have two accounts to manage.

This is pretty much exactly what happened to me. I asked the support guy why resetting my password was so hard, and he just said something about the fact that many people really rely on their Apple accounts to protect intellectual property, so Apple decided to clamp down on account security.

But yeah, now I have two Apple accounts to worry about too. I actually might have 3, as I think I set one up years ago the first time I used iTunes (what a POS software that is).

update:

3:28 PM today was the time where I was supposed to receive the magical text to help me recover my password.

Needless to say, I never got it.

Called apple support again. about 30 minutes later, my Appleid is yet again in recovery mode, and I need to wait another week for yet another magical text.

I can't even....
