Did you turn on the heat yet?

Caved this morning. I had to add a wool blanket last night, and didn’t feel like dragging it around the house today. Game over.

I just took my window AC out last night...at midnight because it was too drafty with the cold winds....prior to last night, the indoor temp was at least 68 without heat.

We have a small space heater to warm up the bathroom. So far no central heat in the house.

Yes, but with the thermostat set low enough to only warm the house a bit in the early morning. That's enough for now.

Not yet.  Permit application is in for a whole new system and I'm wondering if we can make it without starting the old system.  It works, I'm just stubborn.

Haven't given it even a tiny thought.

Okay the house is chilly right now. Maybe I'll build a fire.

In the fireplace.

Our house temperature has been amazingly consistent and above the point where we set the heat when it gets cold.  I did, however, pullout my warm robe for the cooler a.m. since I'm still in summer pj's.

I might face a mutiny if I don't do it tonight. I read 39 degrees as the low.

I have a thermostat that makes those decisions for me

It's on now. Too darn cold.

We can manage with a space heater or two for a while so I just leave the system off until the whole house is too chilly.

No! I hate heat. It’ll take more than one cold night to get me to cave!

I switched the setting from OFF to HEAT a couple of weeks ago, but with a pretty low thermostat setting, to only come on if very chilly and not overheat the house when ‘Indian Summer’ may well return. I think it’s only actually come on very briefly once or twice to ‘take the edge off’.  I’ll notch it up again once winter arrives for good.

I'm actually taking out the window units today.  One of my least favorite jobs.  Lots of stairs.

Yes, the heat is on.  Sigh.

hauscat, I’ve missed you! If our kitchen renovation ever comes to an end, we’ll finally have a Bluestar range and a drawer microwave; I learned about both from you!

 Very cool!

I'm taking the air conditioners out this weekend.  I'm going to call the plumbers next week for a check-out.  So no, not yet.

I have to say, I love that smell of burnt dust. Takes the edge off the chill.

It never goes off.  It is programmed for 72 during hours we are home, 70 for sleeping, and 67 for daytime when we are not home.  It will come on if it needs to meet these numbers.  We don't have central air conditioning, so only turn on window units or split systems as needed.  I'm pretty sure the boiler kicked on for the first time this season the other day.

Just went on - daughter objected to 57 degrees in the living room...

Still toughing it out. Just opened the windows facing the sun.

Not yet. Shooting for Thanksgiving.

That's great! What kind of thermostat do you have?

We just replaced our old Honeywell thermostats with the Ecobee and I really like them - touch screen, and can be controlled via app. I’m certain they also integrate with Alexa or whatever, but I have no interest in talking to my thermostat.

I feel the same way. Whenever I used to, we always ended up in a heated conversation.
