Costa Rica with 3 generations?

Looking for recommendations re: resort that is relatively "accessible"...the grandparents move pretty well but are not able to climb lots of steps/hills/walk long distances. Main interests are nature/birdwatching versus beach.

Thank you!

We had a great time in two different areas of the country -- Quepos on the southern Pacific coast, and Turrialba, east of San Jose. From Turrialba, you can do a number of typical Costa Rican tourist activities, such as visit the sole precolumbian site in the country, raft down the Pacuare, go birding, tour a coffee plantation and visit a volcano. It's not a special town in itself, but it's conveniently located for all these activities. From Quepos, you can visit Parque Manuel Antonio for wildlife and the Isla Damas estuary for birds. There are many beachy resorts on the road between Quepos and the park entrance, but we are not resort types and preferred the vibe of the town.

My husband and I (in our 50s) and his parents (late 70s/80-ish) have made two trips to Costa Rica in the last few years with birding being our primary objective. Out of two 2-week trips, we were only at beaches one or two nights plus one evening after supper, and didn't really spend much time doing "beach stuff" even while in those places. I would be happy to share info about the places we visited, etc. if interested. We didn't have kids along on our trips, but I think we could share some perspective in that regard also. (If it were my kids, we might have had to schedule a few more beach days.) Some favorites - Rancho Naturalista (Turrialba), Arenal, La Paz Waterfall Gardens, Monteverde (We did an amazing zipline tour there), La Selva (OTS) and others.

PM me for contact info if you'd like to talk or email in more detail. I also have a LOT of photos on Facebook.

If you do go to the beach, keep in mind that the gulf side has warm and clear water while the pacific side has cold and murky water (generalization).
