I went to Best Buy the last time we needed a new phone. It took some looking to find a basic phone, without any "works with your iPhone" add-ons, but we did find one. A base unit, and a couple of handsets scattered around the house, so I don't have to run far when the phone rings.

Are you looking for retro cordless phones, or cordless phones that look like older phones?

I know Restoration Hardware used to stock something like the latter if you want that looks 30s/40s, but for the former just hit eBay. Having said that, I checked eBay for retro cordless phones and saw these and they are amazing.

Ridski, the problem with those phones is that you can only use them to call replicants

AND, they're only "retro" if you are in a 2015 as imagined in 1988, with retro being a 1999 that was purely fictional.

{Mind Blown?}

I think you need to have a cord if you really want a "retro look." At some point there's a limit. There is no "blue tooth retro," dig?

i did see table top retro cordless phones...but not wall mounted..

how about installing a shelf on the wall for the phone to sit on?

jersey_boy, there is a difference between "retro" and "vintage". Vintage is generally something which existed, while retro can very well be something which never existed at all before last week but designed to look like it came from a specific period in history.

Thus, Crosley can sell push button wall-mounted phones which look like payphones from the 40s.

Or you can buy a bespoke Victorian Personal Computational Device.

I thought that was "Steampunk."

BTW, I did say that the retro phones were from a fictional history, so we're on the same page with that. (I got a little confused myself while writing that post, in the way that time travel always gets me.)

The phones Ridski showed were more like what tends to be called retrofuturism. Those phones seem to be heavily inspired by the Western Electric Sculptura phone. I have a yellow one sitting around in my basement somewhere. It's not wall mounted, and it's not cordless. It is vintage and retrofuturistic though!

I agree with both of you. However, it's not easy to find something like that if you're searching real world online stores for "retrofuturistic", and "steampunk" tends to yield a lot of low-quality toys these days. Believe me, I've been charting SP and dieselpunk and atompunk for about 6 years ago and trying to fill my cool office with cool stuff, but it's hard to find.

I love the term "retrofuturism." It gives me all the excitement of time travel without the risk of becoming my own grandfather.
