Cool, hip frames for glasses

My teenage son's Rx changed and we're in the market for new glasses. He usually lucks up @ LensCrafters but not this time. He wants a choice of colors and styles. I want to not pay $$$$$. Happy mediums near by?

Warby Parker?

Warby Parker is great and they have a store right inside Grand Central, as you get off the Shuttle. While it is not nearby, it might make for a fun trip to the city and make the glasses purchase memorable.

Just a thought...

he can test out three pairs of frames at home

I recently tried Warby and I would recommend the on line service with one caveat. Mine do not fit perfectly and I don't know if that is because their "selfie" measurement system is imprecise or if I just did not check the fit of the samples as well as I should have. It took me at least 3 or 4 tries to get a picture that was acceptable to them. Inexpensive and lots of styles, so worth a shot.

He was online @ WP yesterday and although found a few, wasn't that impressed. He even uploaded his photo to "try" on frames (I think this was the site; he tried many). When it comes to glasses, he's a more touch, feel try on type of kid.

Also, his exam didn't measure for PD and we discovered that some online sites require that measurement. Some sites explain how to do this at home, but to me / us, it's was bit complicated to a layman to get right. Going into a store would be best this time around.

FWIW, you can try on 6 styles from Warby Parker at home now (up from 3). The samples won't fit your exact measurements, but you can still tell how they look. I was missing the PD measurement also, and they were able to figure it out for me from a photo. My glasses fit almost perfectly when they arrived, and you can take them to one of their retail locations for adjustment.

Not trying to persuade @kibbegirl that WP is right for her teen--it sounds like it isn't. Just clarifying, since I used them recently and am about to use them again for a spare pair.

This sounds like a viable option that is very useful, since you too were also missing the PD measurements. Thanks so very much!

One more thing about Warby Parker: my teen son got a pair that he loves for $99 with lenses which is great. BUT, I can't get my glasses there because my prescription exceeds their limits in three different ways. Admittedly I have terrible eyesight, but keep in mind not all prescriptions can be filled online, even with all the right measurements.

I went to Eye Q in Millburn a few years ago and they seemed to have interesting frames that I didn't see elsewhere. They also took photos so you could see yourself in the frames a bit more objectively. I found it helpful to view the pictures on a computer screen and ended up with a pair that suited me better than any frames I had previously.

That said... it was $$$. However, I realized I was so happy with the look that a few months after getting the glasses from them, I purchased another pair of the same frames online for less $$ , and used that duplicate frame when I needed to replace my glasses a couple years down the line. (I hate looking for new frames, so this let me replace my old frames with the same frames after they had been discontinued).

take a trip into city and go to Warby.

Let their experts show him which frames work best for his eyes, hair, face shape.  And at $99 it's easy to get more than 1 pair or sunglasses too

Quick add - the location on Greene St is a short walk from Path stop.

This is a good idea. Just get it over with already! LOL!
