FWIW, when we were considering adding a deck we were told that to meet code the railings around it essentially needed to be baby-proof.
Since I hate that crib jailhouse look, we opted for a porch in front of our French doors instead.
We already have a deck and railings, long ago approved. We just want a different style.
we have that. We got our deck built last summer, but my DH did the rails and posts himself using feed wire
if you are replacing the railings they will need to meet code... the spacing of the balusters must not exceed 4", so a babies head can not push through the openings.... there is no strength requirement for the balusters but the top rail needs to be able to resist the design load.
Again--any recs? I'm not looking for information on what is code. I'm just looking for a contractor.

I'm looking for someone who can do contemporary railings (i.e the wire style) on our already existing deck, powerwash and re-stain the whole deck. Thanks!
