Construction in the Village

To many parking space being used by contractors and construction equipment.

It's annoying but is there an alternative?

Certainly. Have them park farther away and have a shuttle bus for them.

 That's not realistic.  Who would pay for that?  Workers have to constantly go out to a vehicle to fetch a tool or some materials.  Would that shuttle be just sitting there waiting for this inevitability?  

Tom the construction equipment itself is being left parked around Ricalton Square where the work is being done.  Some of it takes up some spaces in the train station lot. So it's not a question of shuttling the workers to and from their own cars when they arrive to work and leave for the day.

I don't know if the individuals who are doing the work are also parking there.

Why do they leave it overnight?  We are losing spots while work is not happening.

 If they have a deal for the spots it makes good sense to use them overnight.  Otherwise you show up with a truck and trailer and lose the first 40 minutes of your day trying to get a car moved.

Honestly my repetitively named friend I'm not sure.  It's not unusual to see heavy construction machinery left at a job site but this is certainly more obtrusive.  

I think it's frankly a time-saver for them.  Where would you move it to?  How far would it have to go each morning and evening?  And how much of your productive time during the day would you lose to moving that stuff back and forth?

The garage where the stuff is stored is probably a ways away.

The Town allowed the construction company store trucks and heavy equipment at the pool parking lot while the apartments next to NJT were built.  That is one possibility.  There are more than a few empty lots along Springfield Ave, maybe one of the owners is interested in some extra money.

Pool parking lot was directly across the street from the construction site, so not much of an issue for the construction company.  Distance between Maplewood Avenue and Springfield Avenue is not quite so convenient.  Plus with the amount of construction on Springfield Avenue and the development of a temporary park at Yale and Springfield, there are not so many empty lots left that would be suitable for this purpose.
