Coastal town in Normandy or Brittany with great food?

Has anyone PERSONALLY been to a (preferably smaller, not "hot") town on the coast of northern France?

honfleur (might be "hot")

Dieppe--low key, we had a nice meal but not sure about your standard for "great"

I stayed in Saint-Malo several times as a base for driving along the coast (Mont St. Michel, etc.). I loved it, but it might be more touristic than you have in mind.

Honfleur is a super quaint seaside town with a picturesque harbor. Spent two days there and loved it.

No idea if this is what you are looking for, since it's not quite on the coast (but close!), but several years back we spent several nights in Bayeux, a delightful town. The tapestry was surprisingly fascinating, and it also has a pretty terrific cathedral. From there you can also tour the D-Day beaches if you're so inclined. We stayed at an adorable B+B whose owners also grew apples in the countryside, from which they made calvados. We had one particularly memorable meal in a classic bistro next to the cathedral. I'd chosen Bayeux mostly just because it made sense in our itinerary, but was surprised at how charming it was.

I second Bayeux and also have a wonderful inn/B&B recc in town. I wonder if it doesn't get swamped with tourists in season though...we try to avoid "those people" cheese

I wonder if we stayed in the same place, berkeley -- it was perfectly delightful; lovely people.

I thought the same thing but the apples didn't ring a bell. We stayed at Le Petit Matin (I tried to get link but not working)...more like an inn, with each large bedroom having an en suite bathroom. There is a downstairs suite with even more privacy.

I guess not then, berkeley! -- ours was Logis les Remperts, just a block or two from the cathedral. Delightfully decorated guest rooms in an old stone house. We really loved Bayeux! Ina, you should go there!!
