Cell phone reception in Maplewood

I think we've hit the tipping point with Verizon Wireless.  The reception just keeps getting worse, with calls dropping out all the time, both here in Maplewood and also at some locations in Manhattan.  I'd love to hear feedback on the quality of reception of other companies -- AT&T, T-Mobile, etc.  When we moved to Maplewood 17 years ago, we had AT&T and could barely get a signal at our house, so we switched to Verizon.  Now we seem to be at that same point with Verizon -- most of the time it's one bar at our house.  I don't know what happened, but it's annoying.  Are the others any better, or is it that so many signals are crowding the air space that it's just the way it is?  We both have iPhones.

I've used AT&T forever and a day, and never have had any connection/call quality issues.  That being said, I've always had Android phones, so don't know if what you're experiencing is a network thing or a phone problem.

AT&T is fine in MWD. I had issues with Sprint in the village, which is why I switched to AT&T. I have noticed AT&T is terrible in Short Hills, though.

I have att

Screen says 5Ge

 It's not true 5G. AT&T doesn't have a 5G network yet.

It doesn't mean you're not getting good service, but 5G is going to be a quantum leap forward in mobile data speed. It's only barely starting to roll out.

RichardR did your try the old dial *228 trick on your phone?  It’s supposed to reset your cell tower connections.  Worth a shot.

Tried that and it said call could not to be completed as dialed.

Is there more to it?

Are you on Verizon?

my comment was directed at Richard r, who said that his trouble was with his Verizon service.

 AT&T

The *228 trick doesn't work any more.  It says "This number is not allowed."  I remember trying it before.  I did go to Verizon Wireless online and looked up the new way to do it.  Settings>General>About.  If there is an update for carrier settings, it's supposed to present the option to you.  No option to update carrier settings.  While online, I did see a suggestion to turn off 4G to decrease dropped calls.  Not exactly an ideal solution.
