Bus incident at the circle of 1st and Sloan.

Hi everyone--

My family and I just moved into town from the City and we've spent a majority of our recent time driving around becoming acquainted with the area. Today at 3pm we were rounding the circle on Sloan (and continuing on Sloan back up towards Dunkin' Donuts) when a public bus entered the circle coming from 1st Street and proceeded to drive the wrong direction nearest the firehouse cutting us off and hauling down Sloan Street. We honked as he came within feet of us head on, he flipped us off and motioned us to backup. This is the second time I've seen a bus do this at the circle around this same time. Is this a normal 'thing' here? With the presence of firemen, police and pedestrians, it seems like a ballsy move especially for a public bus.

Welcome to South Orange and that whole area around the train station! I would make a report to South Orange Police and to NJ Transit. Hope you got the bus number.

Some bus drivers seem to think they can do whatever they want.

+100!!

That bus does that quite frequently. Nearly been hit by them myself

If you can get a policeman to enforce any traffic law on Sloan St., more power to you.

Did you catch the Bus number so we can follow up with NJT?

The route doesn't call for the bus to go down 1st Street; but only Second Street, because of the circle. The driver should be reported. That's a very unsafe driving condition.

Did you happen to notice if 3rd street was closed? Drivers seem crazier on those days when 3rd street is closed. And do reach out to Howard

Oh, give me a break. It's a circle, not the wild west.

No, this is not at all normal for a bus to barrel through the circle.

The buses are supposed to use 2nd St, but the bus stop sometimes gets congested there and the buses can't make a tight enough turn to get in line, so they wind up with the rear of the bus sticking way out into the street. Therefore, I guess there is a driver who thinks using 1st St illegally will let him get in straighter. That's the only thing I can think of. I have never seen this happen. Report the bus # to NJ Transit.

I thought that was a little out of character for you! LOL! No, I'm totally unaware of any SO circle bashing threads -- I don't even dare to open any bashing threads about SO period! But I have my own horrible experiences at that circle and Sloan Street (including an ambulance illegally making a left turn in the middle of Sloan into a non-existent parking space, and the driver getting out and going into Stony's). Cheer up, the day can only get better!

Was the bus also backpedaling?

If Barnaby Busdriver keeps the same schedule, it shouldn't be that difficult to refer his bus number to S.O.P.D., along with the time we can expect the violation to take place.

One ticket will stop the practice since C.D.L. drivers get double the points.

However, if you are a liberal softie like me, you might ask that the driver be given a first time warning.

Why bother to do anything if all he gets is a warning. The better solution would be to get Ralph Kramden off this route.

to OP, we used to have trouble with bus drivers relieving themselves on Sloan St by the bus stop.

Point, that was complained about thru the BOT and the problem seems to have stopped, its worth speaking up.

Is that what killed all those trees along the wall?

I saw a bus make this move this morning around 1045, took pics and reported to NJT.  Maybe something will be done.

Please forward.

Thanks

I'm afraid this problem is back. That puddle of urine near the bottom of the stairs is there again on a regular basis.
