Bitcoin is splintering

This is the type of thing that inevitably happens with "money" not regulated by a central authority:

"Two high-profile bitcoin developers, Gavin Andresen and Mike Hearn, released an alternative version of bitcoin over the weekend. In software parlance, this kind of offshoot is called a “fork.” Hearn acknowledged in a blog post that not everyone is thrilled with the endeavor. “The community is divided,” he wrote. “Such a fork has never happened before.”

I have never understood Bitcoin, but this sounds all forked up.

One day, we will need bitcoin or one of its descendants. I feel that now is not the time.

I could probably list over a hundred software forks, and very few have technical merit. They are almost always political. It is basically taking your ball home and inventing a new game.
