Best Movies of 2020

Since our other thread is more of a ongoing movie thread - thought it would be good to highlight what was good this past year and what may be the award contenders.

Here's a few "best of" lists:

I've been getting through Steve McQueen's movies(There's 5 of them) - they're on Netflix  .First one Mangrove is well done. Lover's rock topped a lot of lists - I liked it.  These are all on Prime.

Soul was a great animated one.

I think the Trial of the Chicago 7 would be a more mainstream pick.

40 Year Old Version is really well done.

I watched a few minutes of Trial of Chicago 7 and the casting of Sacha Baron Cohen as Abbie Hoffman turned me off immediately. It made me ill. Don't get me wrong, I love Cohen's work, especially in The Spy (2019). Here he looked nothing like Hoffman, sounded nothing like Hoffman, acted nothing like Hoffman and and vibed nothing like Hoffman. .Cohen phoned it in, acting out the script with no appreciation for the dynamic, unstoppable whirlwind of wit and attitude that was Abbie Hoffman. Blecch. I turned it off.

ahh, it's still a good story.

Curious to see what you think of Lover's Rock - I think you'd like that one.

Not familiar with it. Which plat is it on? I'll give it a shot.

 Loved 40 Year Old Version.

Spike Lee's Da 5 Bloods was really entertaining.   I hope Delroy Lindo get an Oscar nod from it.

I'm not sure what other contenders for Best Animation are out there - but I think it would be hard to top Soul. Streaming on Disney+

Chicago 7, One Night in Miami, Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom.

Great performances that I hope don’t cancel each other out. You know how the Academy does.
