Art Green Sandblasting and Painting company... has anyone used them to strip radiators and paint them???

After researching for weeks, and coming up with exorbitant prices for radiator stripping and painting, came up with Art Green in Union on rt 22 W. Has anyone used them for sandblasting and painting old radiators? We have 11 in our house. Tech finishing has closed, it doesn't leave a lot of companies who do this. In the dark, basically with this company, isn't on Angie's list either. Thanks!!!

Yes, I have used Art Green to sandblast steam radiators on 2 occasions.

I removed the rads and delivered to him and then picked up when complete. (Medium sized rads. They are heavy but 2 relatively strong individuals can lift pretty easily.)

He was behind Union Wrecking at 2345 US 22. Cost was 50 bucks each if memory serves, but that is dependent on size. Got them home, primed and painted with spray paint from Home Depot. Very happy with the service and the result.

Would be interested to know how much he charges for painting as well. @jimmurphy, what kind of paint did you use?

He does not paint, and I don't believe he removes, picks up, or delivers - he is a sandblaster.

I used standard spray primer and paint - rustoleum brand I believe. The primer is key and they must be primed promptly or they will start to rust. No need to use high-heat paint - they don't get hot enough to require it. Mine have held up for several seasons with no issues. There is a paint smell that lasts a few hours when you fire them up for the first time only. Do not use metallic paint as it reduces the heat output of the radiator.

Following this thread.

Can anyone recommend a sand blaster person who does paint?

I have a garden urn that could use this service.

Thanks.

He does paint, he apparently goes direct to metal (no primer) with Benjamin Moore INSLX paint which I never heard of. He spray paints them. Ask for touch up paint when you pick them up so that the plumber can touch it up when putting them back in. They do not pick up. I am currently waiting for Kangaroo movers to move them on Saturday. Make sure you tell Art which radiators go in bathrooms since those he will prime due to the moisture in those rooms.

I guess I'm blazing new trails here. I read somewhere that Thermalux paint is the best way to go for radiators. You can google that paint I think. He's charging around $12/rib. We have 133 ribs. Plus or minus the one that came from me in researching this!!!

ok more info, I heard from a friend that Artie Green is the way to go, so it looks like that's what I'll do.

I used him many years ago. I delivered and pickup up. He sandblasted and spray painted with a high temp paint. (Automotive engine, perhaps?) They've held up great. Too long ago to remember cost. I think $100 ea, blasted and painted, but I'd expect higher today.

@sender, are you using Kangaroo movers to take them to Art and return them to your house? How much are they charging you if so?

I'll get back to you on cost of Kangaroo movers, not sure how much to deliver and pickup. I'm hoping $150.00 total. We'll see.

Alpine Painting in Patterson sandblasted and painted ours. We paid extra to have them picked up and delivered

I stand corrected on the painting. Good to hear. Art is a good guy

Update on Kangaroo movers. They came to our house at 7 AM Saturday as planned but didn't bring any dollies or straps and not enough people (just Salim and another guy). They said they'd come back Monday AM with more manpower, etc. I've called them and texted them over 5 times and Salim has not responding. So now we're looking for movers, any recommendations?

We were planning to sandblast, but someone suggested that we just use a wire brush to get off flaking paint, then use hi heat spraypaint made for radiators. I figured worst case we still have to sandblast them. Well, then look like new, for little work and cost. Haven't noticed and reduction in heat, nor paint issues.

OK so just called Peerless Coatings In Hawthorne. 973-427-8771 They do powder coating which is what I believe is better than painting. Waiting to hear about movers, I'll see. But the price of peerless is similar to Artie Green. Any feedback? Wow this is major work figuring this out. My sister lives in Harrisburg, PA and a lot easier there. Off to float on my back in the ocean, please respond about Peerless.
