Arson Destroys House of Roy Moore Victim

http://www.cnn.com/2018/01/05/us/fire-home-of-roy-moore-accuser/index.html

Alabama authorities say arson is being investigated in a fire that destroyed the home of Tina Johnson, a woman who accused former US Senate candidate Roy Moore of grabbing her on the buttocks in 1991.

Horrible. If authorities conclude that it was arson, I hope they find the culprit.

The house was destroyed and a "G.F.me" account has been set up. It asked for $40k. So far, it has generated $80+k in donations.

This is one of those situations where a lot of people are jumping to the conclusion that this was some kind of active retribution before the investigation can actually take place. It certainly looks fishy as all hell, but politicizing a terrible event such as this before the facts are in doesn't help anyone win any arguments.

Who in this thread politicized it or jumped to conclusions?

Nobody here. Other social media I've seen. Sorry for not making that clear.

Just in case there was any doubt that many people in Alabama wish it was still the '50s.

Her GFM has raised over 100K

I’m sure there are people are jumping to the conclusion that this was a deliberate act by Tina Johnson’s family to get a new and bigger house for free, funded by online strangers. Does that mean it’s true? Should we be taking note of those people?

What if that theory is just me saying it with multiple accounts? Does it carry more or less weight?

Authorities report they have a "person of interest." He is known as a person with mental and alcohol abuse problems.

Someone on this thread has already reached the conclusion that this was an act of retribution by someone in Alabama.

My point is making any assumptions about the cause of the fire does nothing to help and can possibly hurt. If there is an outcry against a horrible retributive attack by Moore supporters, which then turns out to be an accidental fire, then a whole bunch of well-meaning people are standing there with egg on their faces. Easy targets for conservatives to paint as overly sensitive and irrational liberals.

I feel like part of the current division in the United States is a fight between rational thought and raw emotion - Trump rose to power on a wave of emotion in the face of a tsunami of logical reasons why he'd be a disaster.

I hate to see fellow liberals just start to throw the same kind of blind punches which leave you open to a worse counterpunch. It undermine our position as the adults in the room. And if we can't have a rational discussion about it we're in trouble.
