Are the "Wendy's Bees" Racist?
I remember some cartoons from the early 60s with similar drawings...
let me put it this way -- didn't anyone at Wendy's or their creative agency think to raise a hand and say -- maybe we should think twice about this Ad?
As those staffs get younger and younger their world experience and exposure decreases. I would hope those cartoons that I saw back in the 60s aren't shown anymore. What you don't know, you don't know to question.

Found some postings in YouTube referring to this as a misuse of a popular meme. Showing my preestablished age range, help me with what they were referring to??? It was telling as well that the ones who called it a meme also seemed clueless about what blackface and Minstrel Shows referred to. Or were just playing dumb.

Yes, *I* don't want to understand history, or art... or learn something... or G_d forbid, say "Ooops, my mistake, I didn't realize..."
Life is easier for *me* if I'm allowed to live by *my* self-centered view. Civility is complicated, and would require that *I* should sometimes think about other people's points of view. Not... gonna... happen.

It is dumb because bees anatomy has nothing to do with hamburgers.
And every time I read MOL I see the reason why most of middle America voted for Trump. It was a mistake for them to do so, but no one likes to be hectored. And that is what they were reacting to.

I don't think they were playing dumb about blackface and Minstrel Shows. I honestly think they don't know what they were/are. For many history does not seem to exist. Sometimes when I talk to younger people I'm not sure they've even heard of World War 2. I'm not kidding about that. I've had a few astounding conversations.

You are suggesting that the self-centered people should be kept happy -- let them stay self-centered! Give them candy, tell jokes, ignore harsh realities... THEN they'll vote for Hillary!
What you are suggesting is a strategy of spoiling the nation's children to try to make them think more fondly of "us". Like Trump did.
Do you think children should do whatever they please? Or should they be taught to look beyond themselves?
It seems to me that some people look at a given thing and first compare it to their knowledge of historical racist imagery. Like their racism radar is their foremost filter.
Perhaps one day stupid animated lips drawn on an insect will be just that.
Most professions will tell you that children respond best to positive reinforcement for good things they do and ignoring the naughty but not dangerous things. And that badgering and hectoring is not an effective way to guide behavior, unless you want the opposite outcome.

When the Trumpist neo-Nazis display themselves, I think complaining and not looking for a way to do "positive reinforcement" is the way to go. Sorry to see that someone in our community thinks otherwise, such as yourself.
