It will be an interesting night.  But Sanders not being there bothers me more than anything.

why?  and I doubt you were supporting him anyway.

Candidates rarely do not go so it is a slap in the face for him to not be there.

People need to grow up and understand not every candidate can make it to every event, especially considering how many events there are, the cost of running a campaign and the time constraints.

So what makes AIPAC more important than other events?  From my understanding, Sanders offered to speak via video and they refused.

When you miss an event like this you are sending a clear signal. That signal has been received.

That your sympathies lie with Israel's enemies.

Typical AIPAC paranoia.  Sanders has not spoken on foreign policy much at all.  It may come a surprise to you that for many people, including committed Jews, there are issues more important than Israel.  That does not make us enemies of Israel.

Really, the old Jewish guy is sending you this message?  I take it as a message that he is not going to pander to one specific group and he plans on representing all Americans equally.  Could you imagine the crap he would catch from others being the first viable Jewish candidate and going to speak at AIPAC?  It would be like if Kennedy had made a campaign stop at the Vatican.

But I guess if they had let him speak via video they could have heard his views.

Typical leftist reaction to the rampant hatred of Israel on the left.

No, just a sane reaction to a typically ignorant post.

New dumbest post of the year.

Who hates Israel? Probably more non-Jews than Jews. Most of my Jewish friends don't hate Israel, and most of them are on the left. That doesn't mean we don't have some criticism of its government, but that's not hatred.

Tom-  He is baiting us -- and is typical when he can't come up with a valid response.  Same way we might criticizes our own state or country does not mean we hate NJ or the USA (although I strongly dislike Christie).

and probably best to never respond to him (as I write a note to myself).

Its a broken record,  the same worn out phrase gets played time and time again whenever there is any disagreement or any policy difference or any commentary critical of Israel.   Its tiresome and like zoinks constant barrage of "leftist", "statist", "liberal" nonsensical labels applied where the labels have no applicable relevance his "enemy of Israel" comment is just as nonsensical.

It is laughable to pretend that left is not extremely anti-Israel these days. So when a presidential candidate from the left declines to speak at AIPAC what he is saying to his base is crystal clear. He is telling his base that his policies will favor the enemies of Israel.

Sanders is a Jew. He has nothing to prove to AIPAC. It's the Non-Jews who have to prove how much they love the Jews.

Have any of the other candidates worked on a kibbutz?

Of course if I was advising Sanders I would urge him to go and make a speech as to why he wants to make America more like Israel. For instance they have universal healthcare, don't they?

Yes, but Zoinks hates universal healthcare so we know that Zoinks hates Israel.

Yes, but Zoinks hates universal healthcare so we know that Zoinks hates Israel.

Actually I'm pretty sure Zoinks has gone on record as being FOR some kind of Single Payer Healthcare.

But this is off-topic. Is anyone actually watching the AIPAC Conference?

Actually, it is all about definitions.  Zoinks describes disagreeing with Netanyahu as an attack on Israel, and not liking hummus as being an enemy of the Jews.  By those definitions, I am attacking Israel but I am not an enemy of the Jews.

Two thoughts -

1.  AIPAC ain't Israel.  One does not have to support AIPAC in order to be pro-Israel.

2.  The quoted comment is just parroting offensive right-wing talking points, and is a passive-aggressive way of accusing some of us here of being anti-Semitic.  Which makes it pretty offensive, probably as intended.

As Dubya once said, your either for us or agin' us.  No room for nuance.

Then am I correctly interpreting Zoinks logic with: "Racism doesn't exist, but anti-Semitism does"?

I keep reading the thread title and wondering why anyone would be watching an Accounting conference.

Trumpis now scheduled to speak at 5:45 pm FYI
