Anyone’s recycling picked up today?

5pm and so far no pick up in Kendal area, grrr. Thought they were supposed to do the rounds today, similar to the pickup on Tuesday after Xmas.

North Terrace and Kensington Terrace area seems to have been collected.

Burroughs Way was picked up early.

Yes on Woodside, after the water main break was repaired.

thanks all, they’re just driving up our street now!

We got picked up today, but they missed us last week, so there were three cans full plus another box for them.

We saw the recycling truck being towed today about 12:30, so that may have been the cause of any delays in pick up today.

That's probably it. Ours came around 7 p.m. and based on what I could see in the dark, it looked like a different truck than usual.

Ten minutes ago--at 9:10pm--I went out to bring my streetside piled recycling back in.  Surely, this late, one day after a holiday, the pickup was done or never intended.

Moreover, I was concerned about breaking the rules, since I had once before left it out when everywhere else except on my Hilton street (coincidence???) had clearly had theirs picked up, and I ended up getting a threatening notice for left-out garbage.

The recycling truck just now sped down my street.

I am very inclined to filing a complaint, or worse.

I pay my property taxes like everybody else.

(Vic, are you there...?)

Some Maplewood residents seem to be more equal than others.

As I said above, we saw the recycling truck being picked up by a tow truck yesterday.  Breakdowns happen.  It probably took time for them to get another truck out to finish the route.  I can't comment on other issues you may have had with recycling pick up, but yesterday they were delayed due to a legitimate issue

Mine was picked up.  At the TC meeting last night, it was mentioned that there have been problems with recycling being picked up in some [unspecified] part(s) of town.  Recycling vendor has been contacted by the town and instructed to fix the problem.

The problems seem to be those of reliability and responsibility.

I'll leave it at that, before going on to racism or classism.

Meanwhile, for more than a second time, I've got stacked garbage next to my house.

Notify the Health Department.  The town has put WM on notice in writing that staged garbage is not acceptable.  WM has agreed to comply but needs to know when and where the problem occurs.

Thanks.

I'm getting tired of being treated like a second-class citizen.

Are you sure it's "the Health Department"??

Yes unless things have changed very recently. When I had a similar problem, I contacted DPW first, since Eric had always dealt with this in the past, and was told to call WM myself.  Dissatisfied, I went to the TC and I was told the health department was taking the lead on this.  Problem was resolved quickly once I followed up with the Health Department.

This.  I was having problems with staged garbage and contacted Robert Roe in the Health Department.  He followed up with me and WM very quickly and I haven't had a problem since.  Many thanks to Joan who suggested I contact him in another thread!

I had thought that the problem at hand was recycling, not trash.

It IS regarding recycling, which I sometimes, to vary the vernacular, refer to as garbage.

(Sorry, I'm from the west coast, where the dialect varies, and political corruption takes on different shades.)

I live in a majority black neighborhood.  I can see Newark from my front yard.  My neighborhood is most decidedly working class.  Our recycling and trash are almost always picked up on a regular basis

I suspect that the company had all of their regular customers (other towns) on Tuesday as well as the Monday makeups, so I wasn't surprised that they were late.  Ours is usually picked up early in the morning, but this time it wasn't until sometime in the afternoon.

If they are chronically missing your block, that's a problem.  If they are later than normal on the day after a holiday, I'd say that's par for the course.

waste management hasn't picked up my trash since before christmas and after calling they told me it was picked up on the 28th. I said tell that to the giant pile of trash behind my house. they still haven't done anything. I was expecting pickup today but this weather has prevented it i suppose.

Also FWIW I live deep in Hilton and we had our recycling picked up at 10PM on Tuesday night.

We only have once a week pickup on Mondays with WM.  Hubby and I mistakenly assumed that they would pickup on Tuesday.  Late afternoon rolls around and so I give WM a call to find out they would pick up our garbage today.  Now I find out they're supposedly coming tomorrow for pickup.  While I don't blame them for not picking up garbage in this weather, this is really lousy timing.  Our garbage is just piling up.

Between having to call them numerous times this year for not picking up my garbage, billing issues and staging garbage in front of my house this summer, I am seriously considering canceling my service with them and trying Waste Industries.

Recycling, on the other hand, is always picked up very early on Mondays.  Thankfully we have never had an issue so far.

Waste Management is the worst when it comes to communication re: pickup delays and changes.  I was on their website this morning trying to determine if they're picking up today.  I have not yet signed up for an online user ID with them, only looked at their general NJ info which said facilities in southern NJ (e.g. Matawan) were canceled today.  Nothing about our area.  Has anyone signed up for an online ID and if so are their notifications any better with it?

I have an online account here is their update:

Today's winter storm has closed Waste Management collection operations at our sites in Matawan, Toms River and Woodbine. We will post additional information about our service recovery plan as this information becomes available.
Waste Management asks its customers to be safe during and after this storms when high winds and dangerously low temperatures are expected.
For this and all winter storms, please be sure that snow and ice is cleared from around your waste and recycling containers so that we can safely provide service.
Thank you for being our customer. We are proud to serve you.

Thanks ALS4532.  That's the same info on their general page.  None of the areas listed are anywhere around here but yet no service in Maplewood today and no communication to customers about when pickup will be. Workers' safety comes first, I don't care it wasn't picked up today, just annoyed they don't let you know when it will resume unless you waste time calling them...we're the customers, they should be reaching out to us (email, voice mail, twitter, etc...) when they can't meet service commitments.  Don't get me started on how large my eyes widened when we moved here and found out garbage removal was additional on top of the taxes, LOL.

I live in the same kind of neighborhood.

My services are unreliable, including disposal, mail delivery, street maintenance.

Our mail service sucks, we haven’t had a regular carrier since we moved in. But that’s the post office, the town can’t control what they do

We've been happy with Waste Industries.  They were less costly when we first switched and when I have occasionally rechecked they were still either the same or less costly than WM.  We have one-can service twice weekly. I would switch it to once a week if they offered that, but they don't (at least as of the last time I checked.)  I don't know what they did or didn't do this week, though, because we had just returned Sunday from holiday travel, so we have yet to put out any garbage to be picked up.
