I too am a boomer and have been regularly donating platelets at the Scotch Plains Center. Longer process than blood donation but such a worthy cause. I even accumulate fairly rapidly points to use for gift cards for Bed, Bath, Target or other stores I shop at but that's secondary to the gift of life for those who need platelets. See for example https://nybloodcenter.org/donate-blood/become-donor/types-donations/about-platelet-donations/
Good going, @wendy. I donate platelets in NYC, and the blood center is always asking me to come in again. So I do. I never look at my bonus points. I think I'm close to earning a pair of Mets tickets.
From Bob Roe: Bump. Do not be surprised if you see Maplewood Township employees donating blood as we are encouraging Township employees to donate.
from Bob Roe: Thank you to all who donated. Please keep your eye open for other opportunities as we have several local organizations that sponsor blood donation drives.

From Bob Roe: Township of Maplewood in cooperation with the American Red Cross will be holding a blood donation drive at the Woodland Parlor, 60 Woodland Road, on Monday August 20th from 2:30pm until 7:30pm. If you are motivated to donate and have been looking or an opportunity, this is a good option. Call 1-800-RED-Cross, (1-800--733-2767) to schedule an appointment. Walk-ins are welcome as time permits.
For further information contact the Maplewood Health Dept. 973-762-8120.
A couple of thoughts: I was advised by one blood bank organizer that the biggest group of people that donate are the Baby Boomers. Also, successful blood donation clinics have been held at Columbia HS. But, Millennials, who are mostly healthy young adults, donate at a much lower rate. I am a proud older Baby Boomer who thought I was too old to donate. But the rules have changed and as long as you are in relatively good health, you can donate. Who would have guessed this?
