An easy way to write to our federal representatives

I highly recommend Resistbot. It is an app that you drive with text messages. Once you sign up, you can compose a letter on your phone and send it as a text to Resistbot. Then Resistbot sends a fax or snail-mail letter to your congressperson and both of your senators. It's so easy to dash off a three-sentence letter now.

To get started, text the word "resist" to 50409.

There is no app to install on your phone or computer. You use it entirely with texts.

It's pointless. Their staffers act like they are half brain dead. 20-25 years ago, I would at least get a response. Now I usually don't get a response at all, but if I do it is unrelated to the issue. For example, I could write a letter supporting gun control and get a response about abortion rights.

No, it's not pointless at all.  The fact that you don't get a response is not the same as "pointless".  Resistbot sends a fax, which is counted that same as a letter, and they track/count the # they receive by subject and point of view.

Phone calls are better, but letters and faxes are very much counted by the staff and reported to the representative.

Thanks for the update on a new way of communicating with our elected representatives.

When I send a letter to my congressman using the form on his web page, there is a checkbox for requesting a response. When I check it, I do get a response. Of course, it's a form letter, but it's something.

so its good that i send a letter about abortion rights and they record that as being in support of gun control?  I have serious issues that I need help from the reps with (disability discrimination in federal programs/medicare issues) and i only get nonsense if I get a response at all.

It used to be that their staff would at least forward your letter to the appropriate department and that would get their attention and they would do their job...now I get nothing....
