Gguy, if you are officially running, would you mind devulging your name? It might help at the polls when those of us who pull things know what things to pull

She is missed

--- the one about the Brooklyn transplant who wanted to know the phone number of the nearest local zoo because one of their deer got loose and it was in her yard.

I’ve been on here a long time - since ‘99 or ‘00, and we’ve had a lot of turnover in that time.

I’ve long thought there should be some sort of post, and poster, “Hall of Fame.”

It would be nice if there was an easy way to remember and reference the noteworthy old posts and posters, rather than trying to search.

Not sure of the mechanics of it, but I really value the history of this site and it would be nice to celebrate that history somehow.

Edited to add: so many here don’t know of justmelaura, or BuffaloeJoe, or Strawberry, or sbenois (back when he kept it lighter -sorry sben), or Mem and her recipes, and many more... Classic characters who deserve recognition. IMO.

--- and the other Brooklyn transplant who saw his neighbor raking leaves onto the gutter and wonder "Who does he think is going to pick them up?"

That was a couple of years ago.

My favorite running joke on MOL is MFABSO (Maplewood for a better South Orange) and SOFABM (South Orange for a Better Maplewood).

Can't find the exact comment or recall the timeline - but in memory of the fabulous Jerry Ryan - got dubbed or voted:

"The Recliniest(sp) member of the Township Committee! LOL!

Just The Aunt, Calliope, CynicalGirl, SOParent, all the versions of Claudia, of course Tom Reingold, Monster, Fishy, the few whose names are tickling the tip of my tongue - you kept me in stitches when I couldn’t sleep, kept me sane when personal life was overwhelming, helped me mourn when Mum died suddenly.
We cat ladies bonded solidly, there was rarely a problem that couldn’t be resolved through group knowledge.
Thank you all

--- and JMLaura. How may people do you know, -- not politicians, movie stars-- that can fill a whole church at their funeral?

That is from a post I wrote a very long time ago about the Maplewood Decision Making All-Stars.   Probably 2005.   He was the recliningest member of the MDMAS.

May have been the Crayola Blvd post in which I asked them to declare war on Springfield in retribution for the incredible situation where a road crew was supposed to paint a yellow line in Springfield but instead painted it on Springfield Ave in Maplewood.   Wet yellow paint very quickly turned into lots and lots of bizarro lines as cars drove through the paint and made turns off of the Avenue.

I, also, was a big fan of PeggyC’s which says something, I think, about the broadness of her appeal.

PeggyC is very active on Facebook these days!

I keep telling her she’s missed  cheese however, as mentioned above, she reckons the Lounge is enough for now. Tough for those of us not on FB.

Returning to the topic, though: the curious squirrel up Calli’s jeans leg is nearly as funny as the bat thread.

 Chipmunk, right?

All the talk on a related thread of an MOL Hall of Fame reminds me of the amazing takeoff on Dante's Inferno a la MOL that was posted years ago.  Jamie:  Is that post still available for viewing?

Yes!  (I posted similar upthread but no response so far.)

 I'll tell her!

Holy moly! USMNTFan is here - how have you been?

Please tell Peggy C that "Miss Eliza" sends her regards.  We had a shared affection for Jane Austen.

Desperately missing snow here in SW Ohio!

ETA: Only popped on after a long absence to check out Max’s and WXNut thread (I truly miss good snow storms) but got curious about this one. Probably won’t see me again for a while. grin

sbenois already knows that this is my favorite of all time, but his post about Fred going to Curley's in Maplewood center in the 50's. It was so well researched and funny.

also, Buffalo Joe's posts were a good distraction when I was in a boring job

What’s funny is how relevant so many of the topics still are! It’s only some posters, or newer names, that have changed.
Is anyone still in touch with PhilC?

He's on Facebook.  I think he moved out of the area, not that that has ever stopped some others  grin .

I'm connected to him on Facebook, but he's not someone that I actually talk to.
