60 min Delays out of Penn 5.27

Per NJT: 60 min delays in/out of NYP. Power problems at Sunnysde yards.

Don't know when we will leave, but the 5:14 is boarding

My husband was on the train that was due in to Maplewood at 5:18 and it got in at 5:35, so not quite as bad as first thought.

6:08 is boarding, but previous train appears not to have arrived so it is crowded.

Here's what you were missing at 4:45...

^^^ and that's the waiting room that no longer has seats? Thank GOD I'm not commuting any more -- this would have put me away for life.

I high-tailed it to Hoboken when I saw delays that severe. Now they're saying 90 minute delays...

Smart! Hoboken was running with small delays around 6pm... Not even sure why that was the case. Hope it's fixed for the morning..

Thinking good thoughts for the pregnant woman who passed out in the heat on the lower level of Penn Station at 6:30. Most dehumanizing commute ever.

Ugh!

There were problems with the overhead wires in sunnyside yard--trains weren't getting out. Or so they said.

I ended up grabbing any train to Newark Broad, then waiting there for the Hoboken train to MAplewood. Took about an hour.

I'm down to a once weekly commute and I don't think I can take it anymore. Leaving the city is a nightmarish cattle drive and I'm fearful there will be a stampede or incident related to commuter-rage one day. What's more, we're looking at a 9% rate hike as a reward for all the great service.

I agree. It's unfortunate, but there will be a serious incident one day due to overcrowding and narrow passages at Penn. I don't know how someone hasn't fallen into the tracks with 24" of clearance in some areas of the platform

Every time we have one of these major transit snarls (about once per month or so by my count), I recall how Gov. Christie plundered the money set aside to build the new NJ/NY train tunnel. These delays and malfunctions will only continue to worsen, I would think, as the system ages and demand increases.

It is amazing that people just accepted Christie killing that tunnel project. What a terrible decision. I'd gladly pay higher fares for the tunnel to be secured.

Fancy you should write this - the NYT published an article today on this very topic.

The worst governor. Words fail me trying to describe how or why he would decide that incompetence was the best way to prove he should be president.

Thankfully he'll fail at that. Because what if he were elected President? He'd immediately start to run for re-election, and who would he screw over to make it happen?
