2.4G

I bought a security camera in Amazon, and I now discover that it only works on 2.4G.  My I phone 6 says 4G.  I tried googling the issue, but I made no progress.  I tried contacting my internet provider, and it was a waste of time.  It is the mega telecom company with service in Latin America, North America and Europe, but no humans or technology that is working in Hijuelas, so I need to ask you folks for help.  What do I need to do to connect the security camera to my phone?  Yes, in an ecological reserve in the middle of nowhere there are more crazies than in Maplewood.

2.4G is a standard router speed.

Seems like the camera should connect to your wifi router first.  Then maybe the camera has an app that allows you to connect?  Maybe share what type of camera it is.

I doubt cams can connect to your phone directly.

This is the camera:  https://www.amazon.com/Security-Wireless-ieGeek-Surveillance-Detection/dp/B0915R49LJ/ref=pd_rhf_ee_s_pd_crcd_5/137-8433263-4737763?pd_rd_w=OUIPW&pf_rd_p=ecb2692f-0365-4eca-a102-58ef51a608ce&pf_rd_r=VS6B93PVKMHR32660EWE&pd_rd_r=29d85eac-9dcd-474b-b6fc-e7bc857cc74c&pd_rd_wg=n2Ket&pd_rd_i=B0915R49LJ&psc=1

and you are right, it doesn't connect directly to the iphone; it connect via software called CloudEdge that loads into the cellphone.  I am unable to get the code of the software to be read by the camera.  The message on the phone says that it only works utilziing 2.4G whatever.

I googled how to switch my iphone6 to a 2.4G network, and none of the instructions make sense to me, because the language is simply beyond me, and I don't see any of the options that they discuss.  I am wondering that perhaps my internet provider Movistar does not have the capability to run on 2.4G.  That is why I tried calling or using their app to contact them, but nothing worked, I could not get anything to answer my question.

Ok, do you know what router you're using?  Sounds like you do need a 2.4G router.  Most routers use the 2.4G spectrum the latest is 5G.

2.4 would not be a iphone setting.  2.4 is a wifi router setting.

Oh!!  I had no idea.  How do I look at the router setting and then change it?  My router is about 5 yrs old, and it is a Huawei 8310s-518.

You don't need to change anything yet. And you might be OK to connect your camera as is, as the odds are good that your current wifi network is a 2.4G network.

Do you have the instructions about what to do for the initial camera setup?  I would think that the first step is to connect the camera to your wifi network. If you're lucky, that will work.

Weird - when I look up this model - it says 4G.  I thought they were 2.4G then went to 5G.  It may work with the lower bands - I'm not sure.

On the camera it specifically says that it works with 2.4G - not 5G.

Remember, Copihue is in Chile.  Network default settings may be different there.

jamie, that's a cellular modem. It connects to the 4G cellular network to get to the internet, and then creates a wifi network for your local devices. And the odds are that the wifi network is 2.4G.

The camera does have an instructions booklet, and the camera has to scan a QR code from the program on the cell phone, but it fails.  I have tried it multiple times, and it never reads it.  I am frustrated and very tired.  I will try it tomorrow when I am fresh.  Thank you.

 Hello, friend.

The security camera doesn't read the QRcode in the cell phone.  I tried to reset it, but it doesn't reset either; I know that because I am supposed to get a flashing light which I got the first time I tried it, and now I don't get the flashing red light.  I proceed anyhow, and my router id and password were saved in the security camera.  (I have another security camera with a similar problem with the reset button, and I called tech support; they told me that security camaras will not allow one to reset the registration info, so I proceeded).  I held the QR code in front of the security camara so that it would scan it, and that is where is fails.  The instructions say that the camera will not work without 2.4G wi-fi, so I concluded that was the problem.  That's when I tried calliing my provider to find out about 2.4G, but they don't take calls, and you are supposed to contact them via an application which always responds that they are busy, to contact them again.  So I started this thread, because you folks have always solved my technology issues.

I did manage to get into the router, and I did not see an option for 2.4G anywhere.  I believe this is a 4G network, and it appears that that network does not have the 2.4G option, so my camera will not work.  I hope I am wrong.

Your provider has nothing to do with your 2.4G wifi network. The only way to really verify if your wifi network is 2.4G is to login to the router directly with the admin password and check the properties of the wifi network that you normally connect to. Directions for doing this should be in the manual for the router.

Do you need to do any setup on the phone app before it generates the QR code - like maybe connect the app to your wifi network?

Also, your wifi is not a 4G network. 4G refers to the cellular network that your phone normally uses to make phone calls or connect to the internet. (Or maybe you're still on a 3G network). Those are the only questions your provider can answer - are you on 3G or 4G. And neither matters for your camera issue.

There are two networks involved here - one is the 4G or 3G cellular network. The other is your wifi network controlled by your router, which is probably 2.4G. Your camera has to connect to the wifi network, not the cellular network.

also, can you verify your router model number? is it 8310s-518 or B310s-518? I can find the latter but not the former.

The model # is 8310s-518 and the SSID begins wih B310.

Oops, senility is stepping in.  The model # is B310s-518 and it is unlocked.  I know because when I lived in Olmue I had WOM as the internet provider, and then when I moved to Hijuelas I have used Movistar and Entel, and the router works with all internet providers.  The signal sucks, but that is a separate issue.

Hi.

Have you made any progress?

Looking at the serial numbers I’m thinking someone mistook the number 8 for a letter B.

Well that's what I thought too. There does seem to be a model 8310s-518 but I I'm having trouble finding the user manual.

Seems a lot of people have issues with this router. It’s 4 G, and it must be unlocked.

 ??

Unlocked for what?

Is the camera close enough to the router?  Routers have a range of about 60 feet, but if there are barriers, it can be shorter.

Apparently if the router is from an internet provider, and you buy it unknowingly it won’t work unless you sign up with that provider. Kinda like the cell phones. In Latin America and the Caribbean, you have to make sure you’re not buying these things locked . They can be unlocked of course. I posted up the YouTube video in Spanish for Copihue to get a better idea ( I assume she speaks Spanish )

One has to be careful when buying these devices in South America. Used stuff is being sold as new.

I think the router is working correctly. It's the new camera that's the problem.

 Ok.
