"He's got our back"

The Star Ledger/NJ.com is to the NYT as Maury Povich is to the PBS Newshour.  Though, once in a great while, the SL will rise to the occassion.

Tom Moran did it here:  http://www.nj.com/opinion/index.ssf/2018/02/hired_then_fired_hours_later_why_did_murphy_give_t.html#incart_river_home

Moran might be right on this one.  But who really knows?  He's pretty extreme anti-union, so it's hard to know if this is just his bias showing through.  His strong anti-NJEA sentiment was probably behind his early support for Christie.  We all know how that played out.

I started reading the comments. As usual there are two sides to the issue.

The Governor did the right thing: Paula White is a shill for the Charter School Movement. We need advocates for public education in the Department of Education.

Moran highlights the fact that she's African American, but he fails to mention that her views on Charter Schools are opposed by the NAACP.

Moran asks:

So, ask yourself: Is Obama's education agenda so toxic, so extreme, that White's 18 months advocating it should be a disqualifier? In effect, that is what Murphy is saying.

I wouldn't label it "toxic" or "extreme" (that's clearly Moran using a rhetorical device to shut down further discussion).  But Obama's education agenda wasn't particularly friendly to public schools.  It was typical centrist charter school promotion, at the expense of the regular public schools.  And yes, for some of us, it is a disqualifying factor for someone whose job should be to promote and improve the public school system.
