Talking to Children About Race

Event Date: March 26th, 2019 at 7:30pm
Address : Tuscan Elementary School 25 Harvard Ave. Maplewood
Town : Maplewood
Information:

Learn about creating a home environment that supports open communication about race and difference, being intentional about talking about race, providing your kids with the tools they need to understand difference, and more.  While many children of color are having conversations at home about race from an early age, white children are often silenced by their parents when they make observations or ask questions about race.  Talking to Children about Race is an Community Coalition sponsored annual, free program that offers practical strategies for all parents when talking about race at home.  This year’s program takes place on Tuesday, March 26, 2019 at 7:30 PM at Tuscan Elementary School. Our expert will discuss best practices in raising race conscious children, and our panel of parents and students will share their own experiences on related topics.  Join us for the presentation and for our breakout discussion groups that follow. The program is open to everyone, but geared toward families of elementary and pre-school children.
