Join the South Orange-Maplewood Adult School as they welcome film critic Stephen Whitty for a lecture on Martin Scorsese’s New York. The event costs $20 and will be held at Columbia High School’s Black Box Theatre this Thursday, April 27 at 7:30pm. New York City is really a collection of neighborhoods, and no one has explored them more than Martin Scorsese, whose films not only turn those locales into characters but capture them forever—the bohemian world of 1980s Soho, the dangerous streets of 1970s Times Square, the go-go offices of 1990s Wall Street. This talk will include clips from some of the director’s most acclaimed films, as well as a discussion of their behind-the-scenes histories, their now-vanished landmarks and their complex and compelling themes. STEPHEN WHITTY is a writer and critic for newspapers, magazines and websites, including the Star-Ledger, the New York Daily News, nj.com and Fortune.com, while also working as a college lecturer, film festival host, interviewer and juror. To register, visit somadultschool.org or call 973.378.7620. You may also pay at the door
