MARK MAZZETTI is Washington Investigations Editor for The New York Times, a job he assumed after covering national security from The Times’ Washington bureau for 10 years. He is the author of The Way of the Knife: The CIA, A Secret Army, and a War at the Ends of the Earth, which was published in 2013 and became a New York Times bestseller. It has been translated into more than ten languages. In 2009, he shared a Pulitzer Prize for reporting on the intensifying violence in Pakistan and Afghanistan and Washington’s response. The previous year, he was a Pulitzer finalist for reporting on the C.I.A.’s detention and interrogation program. Before joining The Times, Mazzetti was a staff writer for the Los Angeles Times, where he covered the Pentagon and military affairs from June 2004 until April 2006. Since the Sept. 11 attacks, he has made several reporting trips to Afghanistan, Iraq and the Horn of Africa.
