Likely Stories: Actors and Short Stories Onstage

March 27, 7:30pm at The Woodland

Inspired by Isaiah Sheffer’s Selected Shorts at Symphony Space, Likely Stories is an evening of storytelling; great short stories are “performed” by celebrated actors. This year’s event features Jeff McCarthy, Brenda Pressley and Emily Zacharias and will take place on Monday, March 27th at 7:30pm at The Woodland. There will be a wine and dessert reception.

JEFF MCCARTHY made his debut on Broadway in 1983 in Zorba. He went on to perform in numerous other Broadway and Off-Broadway productions including Chicago, Urinetown, for which he was nominated for a Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Featured Actor in a Musical, Southern Comfort, Sideshow, Sympathetic Magic, Dream True, Smile and Beauty and the Beast. He recently completed an off Broadway run of Kunstler, a new play about the radical civil rights lawyer. Mr. McCarthy has had over 40 guest starring as well as many recurring roles on television. His film work includes Starting Out in the Evening, Robocop 2, Consent, Rapid Fire and Cliffhanger.

BRENDA PRESSLEY’s Broadway credits include The Lyons, The American Plan, Cats, Dreamgirls and The Moony Shapiro Songbook. Off-Broadway Ms. Pressley starred in Almost Home, The First Breeze of Summer, Seven Guitars, Fran’s Bed, Marvin's Room, And the World Goes ‘Round and Blues in the Night. Ms. Pressley is the recipient of an Outer Critics Circle Award and a Barrymore Award. Her TV and film work include Third Street Blackout, Detachment, 16 Blocks, Cradle Will Rock, It Could Happen To You, The Path, The Good Wife, Elementary, The Mysteries of Laura, Body of Proof, Law and Order; Deadline; Law and Order-SVU, Harambee!, Lifestories and Brewster Place (with Oprah Winfrey).

EMILY ZACHARIAS has directed Likely Stories for 10 years. As an actor, she’s been featured on Broadway in 3 musicals and 3 plays. She’s created roles Off-Broadway, Off-Off, in regional theater and on National Tours. She’s a teaching artist and a performance coach to writers, clergy and fearful speakers. Ms. Zacharias directed Art in the Public Eye for the Lenny Pierro Arts Foundation and is a founding member of the Drama Desk-nominated Workshop Theater where she is currently performing in Through the Darkness.
