THE REDPATH EVENT CHOICE 2016: THE RISE OF TRUMP How We Got Here and How the Corporate News Media Missed It A conversation with independent journalist, Bob Hennelly, a weekly contributor to Salon, City & State and WBGO-Newark Public Radio. For years, the corporate news media reported we were recovering from the Great Recession and the foreclosure crisis was over. But only seven percent of America’s counties have actually experienced a recovery, while the foreclosure crisis has continued to cast a shadow on cities like Cleveland and Philadelphia, where the major parties held their conventions. Polls indicate this prolonged economic stagnation has the American public angry because they believe our political system is rigged for special interests. How has Donald Trump harnessed these undercurrents and used them to appeal to disillusioned voters? What’s next? How will our economic challenges shape the debate that will define our future? BOB HENNELLY is an independent investigative reporter and commentator on topics ranging from local, state and national politics, law enforcement, labor and environmental issues to global finance. Bob was a long-time reporter with WNYC-New York Public Radio, and he is a frequent contributor to WBGO-Newark Public Radio and WBAI-Pacifica. His written work has appeared in the New York Times, Salon.com and many other publications both in the U.S. and globally. This evening honors the late Robert U. Redpath, a distinguished former trustee of the Adult School, in whose memory a fund has been established to provide an annual program highlighting his interest in communications and language. Fee: $10
